Yeah another sync issue but hopefully and easy one

I have a new laptop with the newest version of Itunes. I have an old 160 gb Ipod that I thought was done - turns out it's fine but the USB wasn't working on the old laptop. So I bought a brand new 160gb never been opened. NEITHER sync to Itunes now. I have authorized the computer and, as I said, it's a new version of Itunes. If someone can help I would really be appreciative:bigmugobeer:. I love my music and my Ipod!
