"This device cannot start. (Code 10)" 6th gen nano ?

Hello!



I recently purchased a used ipod nano 6th gen. It was working great by itself but it won't connect to my laptop. Here's the short story:



Ipod worked fine out of the box. Is not recognized by Windows7. Installed and reinstalled the driver, no effect. iPod does not charge from the laptop of from the power outlet. I have itunes version 11.2.2.3 but the ipod has not been able to connect or be recognized by itunes yet.



Here's the Long story w/ the details:



1. Before I connected it to anything with the cable, I was able to use all of the features and played the radio it worked fine.

2. It began to give the low battery warning.

3. I plugged it into my laptop with the usb cable for the first time.

4. Windows (7) gave the error window pop-up: "USB Device not Recognized."

5. If I click on that error pop-up window the next window says "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"

6. If I open Device Manager, it shows one of the USB ports name is "Unknown Device". If I leave the nano plugged into the USB, the device manger window appears to update every 10s or so and alternates between displaying the port name "Unknown Device"and not displaying the port named "Unknown Device".

7. If I click on device properties of the "Unknown Device" USB port from the Device manager screen, I see that the error also alternates between "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)" and "Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)"

8. When attached to the USB port the nano screen alternates between 3 displays, 1 - "low battery", 2 - the apple logo, 3 - the home menu, which is operational. The battery meter symbol shows 0 power and does not indicate charging.

9. If I unplug the nano it does not turn on with the sleep/wake button, I think due to depleting the battery.

10. If I plug the nano into the wall charger, the screen alternates between the home menu which is operational and the apple logo. The battery symbol shows 0 power and does not indicate charging.

11. I followed some troubleshooting steps, on the "Device Properties" window I see the following information:

Driver Provider: Microsoft; Driver Date: 6/21/2006; Driver Version: 6.1.7601.18328;

12. If I select "Driver Details" button, a window appears that says"No Driver files are required or have been loaded for this device"

13. I found trouble shooting steps on the apple website to install the driver, which I followed. I navigated to the folder with the driver as recommended from the apple website and selected it. C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers "usbaapl", then selected "Apple iPod USB Driver" from the list to install.

14. I get the error window titled "Update Driver Warning" which explains installing the driver is not recommended as Windows cannot verify it is compatible with my hardware, but I proceed with "yes".

15. Next window titled "Update Driver Software - Apple Modbile Device USB Driver" shows the error "Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device; Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it; Apple iPod USB Driver; This device cannot start. (Code 10)" and it suggests to download a new driver.

16. Next, I uninstalled the driver and followed all of those steps and it indicated success, also chose delete driver software option.

17. If I plug in the nano at this point I get the indication windows is trying to install driver software, and then the same error occurs as when I first plugged it in "USB Device not Recognized." and I can go through all of the steps again.

18. The Driver details button gives the following info:

Provider: Apple, Inc.; File Version: 1,64,0,0; file names usbaapl.sys & usbaaplrc.dll; driver version 6.0.9999.65.

19. Now the device manager window alternates between showing and not showing the USB port named "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver".

20. If I look under Devices and Printers, it shows a generic icon with the title "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" with a yellow exclamation mark and the status shows "Needs troubleshooting"!



Can anyone help me I will give you any detail and info you want!

Album Artist Sorting?

Hello and greetings from Portugal.



I own a thin iPod classic 160 GB (Late 2009) (7th generation right?), and there's a thing that is driving me nuts!!



Can i sort my music by album artist and not by artist?

I have several albums with guests and featured artists, and if i change the artist with the name of the "artist+feat. artist", it creates new artists splitting/separating the albums.



It would be awesome to sort by album artist because the album artist is always the original artist and don't have the featured artists.



In itunes this is easy, you simply change the field in get info -> sorting tab ->sort artist or album artist.

But this changes doesnt seem to pass through ipod.



Can anyone help??

Forgot passcode...

Hi!



I have an iPhone 3G that I have forgotten my passcode to. The computer which had the iTunes that the phone regularly synced with has since been restored and I have no back up of my iPhone. My phone has not been synced with iTunes since 2011 so it's running some version of iOS 4 I believe.



I have precious photos on this locked iPhone and I have been looking desperately everywhere for answers and instructions on how to pull these photos off!!!



It has been nearly 3 years since I last accessed my 3G!! Somebody, please shed some light on my situation!!

Recommended short Rt Angled 3.5mm jack ?

I have been searching for a decent rt angled jack with a short (12 inch) extension for my ipod to protect my Sennheiser headphones which have a vertical/erect entry point therefore making in vulnerable.



I can find similar with longer (1 meter) with good reviews but all those with shorter leads have poor reviews.



Please could someone help with any recommendations ?

I cannot get it to make a sound when I get a msg. but it will ring when I get a call , also it will not play audio when I try to listen to a radio station, the siri will talk to me. also when I plug in ear phones there is a lot of static is this a hardware issue if so can apple fix this, thanks for any help, bophi

Why doesn't Apple's Earphone with Built-in Mic work on computer?

So I can plug Apple's earphones with built-in mic into the headphone jack of my iPhone/iPod normally and be able to listen and talk on it. Why does this not work when I plug these same earphones into my computer and have them act as both the speakers and microphone? I've tried plugging into both the speaker jack and the mic jack of my computer, and the built-in mic does not seem to work.

VSonic GR99 vs GR02 vs E10

Hi,

I got Soundmagic E10, but the build quality is not really good.

I'm considering several alternatives like Vsonic GR99 or GR02 Bass edition, but I'm doubtful if I make the right decision.

I like strong punchy bass like E10 but not overbloated bass.

Reading some reviews of GR99 & GR02, it sounds like these Vsonics have punchy bass, but on the milder side (mid-bass) , so it wouldn't be thumping as hard as E10.



Can anyone who has auditioned both tell me how E10 compared to GR99 & GR02 in term of bass, soundstage & clarity.

From several IEMs I have auditioned, I think I generally like V-shaped IEMs with some Wow factor like E10.



Am I wrong to expect thumping bass from GR99 & GR02 Bass Edition ?

I also wonder if the impedance GR99 & GR02 (24 Ohms) will make them quieter compared to E10 16 Ohm ?

1)Ipod 5th gen- continues play 2)Audiobook fast forward

1) i had a ipod mini 1st gen for a week and then it broke (i dropped it 3 times and then it was lights out, i hate,hate,hate, hate, myself) and there i noticed that if you listen to an audiobook and then you leave it and after an hour or so pick it up again it starts in the same screen you left it..



BUT



if you connect to itunes/pc (which is the most sensible thing to do as you want the battery to charge), then you leave it an hour or so pick it up and you have to click menu,music,artist or menu,playlist,name of playlist and desired track of playlist.. Surely the/an ipod nano 5th generation has a way around that?



2)And as you could gather, im a big fan of audiobooks, so i listen to them all the time but on the bicycle, and is there any other way to scroll trou audiobooks than this if it isnt chapterized):

) You can go to any point in the song by first pressing the select button once and than scrolling with the click wheel(



i remember that on the zune it skipped five to then minutes when you hit a particular button.. is there something like that for the nano 5th generation or is the diamond thing my only despair?

Resetting EVERYTHING

Hi there.



I have recently changed my 160GB Classic for a 32GB 4th Gen Touch.



Having worked out that 80% of my 130GB Content was over three years old and had Zero plays, I decided that maybe dumping every album I could get my hands on whether I liked the artiste or not was maybe a litle uncritical.



By then I had plugged my Touch into my Hard drive and it had started loading lots of this extraneous music like it or not.



SO, what I want to do, if some brave person would care to help me at a VERY basic level, is to :-



Reset my Touch to Factory settings

Erase all my itunes from my Hard Drive so I can start again with an empty library.

Reinstall.



I have already backed my existing itunes media Library (including Music Videos, Audio Books, photos etc) to an anonymous read only hidden Directory called "Here BE Dragons and Viruses, DON'T LOOK IN THIS FOLDER !!!!" which should keep it safe until I'm ready to decimate it.



I've tried to do this on other occasions some while ago with horrendous results, so a "thicky newbie" step by step would be the dog's tackle.

4th Gen classic freezes up

I have a 4th generation iPod. I replaced the battery, and now my iPod and iTunes on my computer lock up whenever I plug the iPod in.

Deleting picture files from i-5

I finally pulled all my 1900 picture files off my iphone, or rather I copied them to my computer. Now I am trying to delet the two folders that are in the DCIM folder. I can pull it up and right click and hite delete but it says no, I can not delete them. What is the best way to get them off and free up the space.

Bluetooth headphone with volume = to wired?

Need something for both running (volume not an issue) and mowing the yard (where it is an issue). Since I want something that I can run in over the ear is out. Too bulky. For running I can get away with just about anything but when I'm mowing I need something that has a volume level at least as high as OEM Apple headphones. They're fine and actually I don't have to turn them up that much. However I've tried a few BT HP's and they just don't get loud enough. Sent back two different Motorola HP's. Need something that has good range since I usually have my phone in my pocket when mowing. Fidelity isn't an issue. Certainly don't want crap but I listen to Podcasts so hi fi isn't really the issue.



Any suggestions?

Mophie Juicepak Air Headphone Extender - Help

Bought Mophie JuicePak Air for my iPhone 5s and Monster DNA Headphones so I needed to use the headphone extender included with the case. In less than thirty days Apple replaced the case TWICE because the headphone extender died!!! Alternatives, which include belt clip & excellent protection but not necessarily battery. Or third party headphone extender that wouldn't fail so easily!

Problems copying files from iPod to PC

Hi All



I am trying to transfer the music files from my 160gb iPod classic back over to my PC.



After locating the 'Music' folder on my iPod and selecting all 50 of the folders that appear there, I've tried dragging the folders on to my desktop.



However, every time I do, the transfer starts and then very quickly slows down and stops. For example, it'll start by by transferring files at around 17mb/s and then, after a few seconds, the speed drops right down to 0 and the transfer stops.



It's not a problem with my PC as far as I can tell. The hard drive is only a couple of weeks old, has loads of space and I'm not experiencing any other problems with it.



Does anyone have any ideas?

iOS 7.1.1- always backing up to iCloud?

I own a iPhone 4s with the latest iOS on it.



Curious, by default does this iOS always send things to iCloud?



For example when I was in the Apple store, I typed a note on it, and the note appeared in my iCloud account.



How do I prevent everything going to the cloud?



I only like to back up my phone/files etc manually.

Back Up/Restore different iOS?? PC

I had to return my iPhone 4s for a new one.



Before returning it I made a complete backup of the phone onto my PC, and one onto iCloud, via iTunes.



I also copied/pasted all my pictures from my iPhone to my PC from within Windows just to be safe!



I received a refurbished phone, and a backup from iCloud was not possible because the phone already had iOS v7.1.1 (that's how the Apple Stores do it).



SOO, my questions are these.



1. Is it possible/adivsable to put my old OS back on the unit from my PC's backup?



2. How do I put back the pictures I had back on my iPhone?



I got the impression from Apple that because my backup was done with iOS 5.x, that data would not be obtainable. I saved my images separately from iTunes JUST in case something like this MIGHT happen.



3. If I back up my phone to iCloud OR to my PC, will iTunes over right my current backups?



4. Lastly on a "minor" note, I had some games installed, BUT the progression I made within the games is not present once I reinstalled the game Apps. Is this data lost for good too??



I really don't know what the deal is. SO far the phone is functioning fine.

I keep all my music on my external hard-drive and I keep a separate folder on my computer for my itunes library. I don't add all the music to the library because it will exceed the 25,000song limit on itunes Match.



I'm often adding and subtracting songs to the library. I goof up my playlists when I delete songs from the library that happen to be in a playlist. You can check an individual song to see what playlists it's in but you can't check multiple songs. I wish there was a column for "playlists."

I have songs on my iPad that I did not download/purchase

On my iPad the only music that I have synced from by iTunes library is one playlist. But, I have recently noticed that there are songs on my iPad that I never downloaded/purchased. They definitely are not in that playlist, nor are they in my iTunes library.



How did they get there, and how do I get rid of them? Can't seem to delete them directly on the iPad.

Problem using Playlists in car

I have what I believe to be a 120GB Classic iPod. I've been using it as simply a song-player with a headphone, and Playlists work as advertised. Now I have a car (Mini Countryman) that comes with a "y" shaped cable that I can plug the iPod into and control through the cars controls. I really like this option, and loaded a bunch more songs and rearranged Playlists the way I like them. I can select/play them on the computer, or just with headphones....BUT, when I try to select a Playlist while in the car, it ignores me, and just plays one song after another without regard to Playlist designations. They play beautifully by the way. (The only way to request a specific Playlist is on the device menu, but the car can't seem to recognize the request.) :confused:



Is there something I'm doing wrong, or need to set, or define, or ?? When I'm in the mood for rock...and get a jazz song, and then a Christmas song, I want to have a hissy-fit. :mad:

Where are my transferred songs?

I have a 6th generation nano and one day all the songs I transferred from my CD's disappeared. So, all I have on my nano AND in my online Library are songs I purchased through iTunes. Any ideas how to get them back? We are talking about maybe 300 songs.

Hello, when I go to search podcasts in itunes store- quick links- browse- podcasts category- news & politics .. there is no subcategory which used to be listed as "All " so therefore nothing there now that can be listened to or downloaded? Anyone know why this is? AND if I go to Technology - Tech News (free) and try to download a podcast.. any of them... it says "Could not purchase" and unknown error occured .. error 1004. Please try again later... which I have over and over. I have recently purchased a Rolling Stones album, and can download free music or update existing podcasts already subscribed to. Any help on this is appreciated.

Thoughts on the iPod Video (5g) and larger hard drive capacity...

I've read that the iPod Video 5g can only be upgraded to a 60gb harddrive at max, but the iPod Video 5.5g can take up to a 240gb drive.



Why is this? What significant hardware changes occurred between the two versions that allowed the 5.5g to read larger drives? Could the problem actually be the 5g's firmware rather than the hardware?



The reason I ask, is because I ran across an article today that talked about methods for swapping iPod firmware, and showed an old iPod Video 5g with the iPod Touch firmware installed on it...pretty sweet, if I say so myself. If the firmware is the issue, it seems it could be easily remedied with a bit of hacking.

Annoying automatic screen lock - how to disable?

I received a new iPod Classic 160gb (2009 model) today. I notice that when a song is playing, if the controls aren't touched for a few minutes, a screen lock, which shows a play button and a time clock, will automatically appear and cover the screen until you push the button to disable it.



HOW can I turn this function off? It is unbelievably annoying. When it's on you can't change the volume. Please help!! :confused:

Facetime Audio

We are going to asia (Bhutan) and plan to bring my iphone 5. I would like to use facetime audio to call back home but I understand their wifi is really slow. Does anyone know how fast a wifi one needs to use it with facetime audio?



Are there any other apps etc that might be useful in a very rural area like this too contact home? Any apps that might be useful in Tibet and Bhutan?

IPod 4th gen playlist problem

I've created a playlist/compilation of various artist in iTunes under an album name and ticked the "part of a compilation" box then transferred it to my ipod. On there all the songs are shown under the artists names and not as an album so i have to search through to find them.

How can i get them to show as an album instead?

Apple iPad Keyboard Dock + Lightning Devices

Hello,



I've recently came across a very cheap Apple iPad Keyboard Dock and decided to purchase it, since I already had the lightning to dock adapter. It's quality is pretty good and I quite responsive; plus, the "home", "search" and "lock" keys are just great. I miss them in the Bluetooth version... also, I miss the charging dock.



While the keyboard works great with my iPhone 5 (ok... not that good), it doesn't work as a stand with my iPad Air. All keys work (!), plus, it charges (!). But it doesn't feel secure.



Does anyone have any idea of a support I can use to keep the iPad safe? I was considering building a wooden adapter, but I was hoping to get any tip before.

my daughter lost it, she then found it 4mths later and forgot passcode all my music is on and i don't want to restore it if i don't have to.

gaps

On my itunes I have a lot of live concerts. On itunes they play seamlessly between track just like at a live show. Sometimes however when I transfer the same files to my ipod and play them back using my ipod there are gaps between the tracks which mars my enjoyment of the live concert.

iQ5 Zoom Microphone

I bought this to record video based on the rave reviews. The reviews are right, you have take the case off to get it to work.



My issue with it is, we had a fully charged iPhone 5 and it sucked the battery to 19% while shooting a 30-minute video. We had to keep charging it and never could finish the video shoot in one day.



You can't plug it into a power source because the mic is plugged into where the charger goes.



Does anyone have a recommendation for a high-quality microphone for the iPhone that doesn't suck the battery dry?

I'm currently using IconMemo ..... And while I love the fact that I only have to glance at a note on my screen (rather than having to open the app) it doesn't sync between my iphone [4] and ipad [mini]

Music Library restructuring

I have an iPod Classic that I have not backed up in a long time. My computer crashed a couple of years ago and when I got a new one I was able to recover most but not all of my songs.

Many of the songs not recovered were/are still on the iPod, so I wouldn't risk losing them by updating the unit. I now have a means of restoring those files.

Here is my question. I now have iTunes files in more than one place on my computer. Some on the C drive of the desktop and others on a separate hard drive. Some are duplicates.

I want to consolidate all the songs in the proper file. What is the correct file location path? I'm thinking: C\users\music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music\file name

Hi. I was previously using LemonWallet, which became LifeLock, which is now no longer available. I'd love to find a good app to store my personal IDs - insurance cards, SS cards, driver's license, etc. I know many of these also store credit card info - that may or may not be an advantage.

Slife - Daily Activity Tracker

I'm a bigger fellow who has been trying endlessly to lose some weight now that summer has made its way back around. I was looking for an app that could track my daily activities (walks, bike rides, hikes, etc), and I tried dozens until I found Slife.



Have any of you folks use this before? It's great. I'm hooked already, haha.



It tracks all my daily movements so I know exactly how much exercise I'm getting, recommends how much exercise I should be getting, and best of all, it keeps my chunky butt in line! :D

If I Copied the DCIM Folder did I Get Everything?

My kids have their phone overloaded with images, videos, screen grabs, etc. I have been trying to find a simple solution for backup but haven't found anything great. The best solution I have found is Flickr but I am not confident that I have it setup properly. They don't have computers just iPhone and iPads.



My daughter is leaving on a trip next week and I want to get her phone cleaned up so she can have room for pictures. If I used Win 7 files explorer to copy and paste everything in her DCIM folder do I have everything saved, there were 4 folders in this structure? It appears to us that we do but I want to make sure before she starts deleting things.

Normalizing Volume for Music Already On Ipod (Soundcheck)

Hello,

I did some research and couldn't find a solution for this. I've got about 5000 songs on my ipod that were not tagged by itunes for soundcheck, so if i turn on soundcheck it doesn't impact their playback volume. Is there a way to update the volume information for music that is already on your ipod. it seems like itunes will only scan the files in your itunes library on your computer and I'd rather not put all the music back on my computer and then back on the ipod....any suggestions?
