4th Gen classic freezes up

I have a 4th generation iPod. I replaced the battery, and now my iPod and iTunes on my computer lock up whenever I plug the iPod in.



It was suggested that I need to update the firmware. Is that the right fix, and if so, how do I go about doing that?
