Songs show up in iTunes but not in my nano

Hi,
I have a 6th gen nano. When I try to add files to it, iTunes shows the files under "On my Device" -> Music but when I eject and view the contents in my nano, I cannot see any file. Nano screen shows "No music

What could be the problem?
