2nd gen ipod classic scroll click wheel stuck

I have 2nd generation iPod classic that was stored for several years. After taking it out and charging it up, I discovered that the scroll wheel does not turn. The 4 buttons around the wheel work fine and the center selector button works. Just the scroll wheel does not spin. How can I fix this? It was stored in a box.
