iPad Keyboard connection problem

Please, can you help me with this (simple?) problem. I have the Logitech cover with a keyboard for my iPad. I cannot get the Logitech keyboard to work and still have to use my iPad keyboard. I know there's a simple solution for this, just cannot get it to "engage."
