iPod Touch bricked, broken home button

Evening, all.

I've been searching relentlessly for the solution to this problem, so I do apologize if it has been addressed somewhere else and I've missed it.

My brother has a fourth-gen iPod touch which, due to a strange combination of events, has locked him out. He had a nasty habit of leaving it uncharged for long periods of time, meaining the internal date-keeping battery has died, leaving the iPod to believe it's currently 1970.

Because the battery died during the "try again in 30 minutes" lockscreen message and set the date back thirty years, it's now saying "try again in 23,061,832 minutes".

His home button has been malfunctioning for some time, making entry into DFU or Recovery mode impossible.

I've tried jailbreaking the device using p0sixspwn and Evasi0n for Mac and for Linux, I've tried many methods of wiping or resetting the device, including SemiRestore, and I've tried just letting the damn thing die completely in hopes that the date might reset.

Any help would be greatly appreciated by a very bored 12-year-old. I'll try anything at this point. Thanks in advance!
