I have 12 years of calendar events in my Calendar application on my MacPro (entered as 3 separate calendars). I sync all with iCloud. I also have an iPod, which syncs with the calendars. I set the iPod Calendar prefs to sync events of last 6 months. Therefore, if viewing my calendar on my iPod, I only can view events from last 6 months. The syncing is quick, elegant and functionally terrific. However, I would like to be able to see older events also, but the only longer period available is "All Events". This sounds good, but by selecting this, each time I try to use the calendar on my iPod (whether to enter a new event or view any event), the iPod takes zillions of hours (it seems) for any part of the calendar to become available --- apparently because it must sync 12 years of events each and every time the app is accessed! This is unacceptabe and essentially renders the iPod calendar completely useless, so I am forced to only see the last 6 months of events. I don't need to "sync" old entries, for gosh sakes; I just need to be able to view them. Even if I need to view an event from only 7 months ago, I am without a device in my hand to do so. I wish Apple made events viewable back further, perhaps 12 months; even that would be helpful. Why just 6 months?
I'd be completely willing to put all 11-and-a-half years of older events somewhere else so they would all be available at any time I might need to view. However, I have not found any way to move the old events into a form which would be readable in some other synching-not-necessary app. I assume that if I used Google Calendar, instead of Apple Calendar, this time-consuming syncing issue would still exist. Remember: I don't need syncing; I just need to see them. They could be in text form, a pdf, or any form viewable normally on the iPod.
THANKS for any ideas! My stuff: Desktop: MacPro (2008) running Mavericks (OS X 10.9.1); iPod iOS 6.1.5 (2011, so won't accept iOS 7 upgrade).
