Finishing synching

Hi, I am having trouble synching my iPod touch. When I connect my iPod to my pc via usb, I click on synch, it does its stuff then hangs on finishing synching for ages, 4hrs yesterday, I had to force shutdown on my pc to get out of it. This has happened to me the last two times I have attempted it. Also my software says it is upto date iOS 6.1.6, not sure if this is correct! Please can someone help? Thanks
