problem with AAC files

Hi
I am new to this forum so please be patient.

I have purchased an iPod touch 3rd Gen and am trying to add my audiobooks.

They are AAC format and play no problem on iTunes, but when I play them on my iPod I get no sound. Anyone able to assist me?
