Is tempered glass better than rugged film?

I've been using Zagg and other films on my older iDevices for years. With the trend (I call it trend only because I'm so far behind the times :) ) of using tempered glass nowadays, is it generally felt that tempered glass screen protectors are now the way to go? Do they protect as well from a shock and scratch POV? I presume they have better "finger feel" - I can't say I've found a protective film that has the same feel as iPhone glass. I know the clear glass protectors show more glare, but I could live with that. I'm mostly interested in whether the glass protectors are considered superior over films for use and protection.
