Creating large playlists

Before I updated to iTunes 12, I could create large playlists (ones containing ~95% of my songs) by selecting all the tracks in my library, dragging them to the playlist, and then deleting the 5% of tracks that didn't belong in that playlist (or selecting all, deselecting the 5%, and then dragging). Now, it seems iTunes locks up whenever I try to drag and drop more than ~200 songs at a time - and copy and paste don't seem to work at all. What's the best way to work around these limitations?
