iPod mini Compact Flash

Looking for some help....bought a 32gb Compact Flash....thought it was new, damaged packaging....but found out there were a few pictures on it....now, I can't seem to "format" the compact flash to be used in the iPod....I've used this model (Transcend) before without issue....I'm guessing its because it had been obviously used in a camera....I do have a generic card reader which recognized the CF....but I don't know "how" to format it.....any help appreciated....thanks
