Sync not working at all - updated to most recent version

I really hope someone can help me. I loved my 160gb but it started to die. I was told so many ways to replace a battery and none really worked so I found a brand new 160gb (huge fan).

I updated Itunes and plugged the 160 in and the screen indicates connected but no songs sync over. I read where you need to update Quicktime also which I also did so I'm stuck.

I searched the forum but nothing really addressed this.
