5th Gen not compatible with Sharp GM X10

So i recently bought a sharp GM X10. I find out that the stereo is not compatible with 5th gen ipod video, however it is compatible with 6th gen (classic). What gives? Is it a hardware thing or a software thing? What can i do to make it work? Is there something i can do to make the 5th Gen think it's a 6th Gen?
