IPod 1stGen Screen/Battery Issue ???

My IPod 16GB 1stGen has two grey ghost battery figures displayed side by side on the screen and I don't know what it is or how to remove them ... they are blocking mhy ability to use the keyboard and viewing.

Any help would be appreciated . . .
