Last week my pair of brand new ipod earbuds were rapidly deteriorating and I lost sound. Unplugged and the tip of the plug, the bottom piece or whatever was stuck, so I had to plug the rest of the earbuds back in to get the stuck piece out. Bought a new pair of earbuds today and when I plug in to my itouch I get distorted sound, unless I unplug halfway and hold the plug in place. I tried the qtip technique but I barely got anything but blue and gray dust. I look at the outer part of the headphone jack and it looks bumpy, like it's been scratched or something. I'm sure that's the problem, and I probably need a new jack or need to buy a new ipod, but the thing is I'm flat broke right now AND I have no tools in my house so I'm pretty much stuck with a broken ipod unless otherwise.
