Trying to help my friend with his iPhone 4S. It wasn't connecting to the cell network for a few days and Verizon told him to do a restore. It kept giving activation errors and wouldn't restore, then we tried restoring in recovery mode and it keeps failing with "unknown error (3)". Someone suggested pulling out the SIM card and doing a restore but it made no difference.
