Hi guys. I'm new here.
I am going through a divorce. Our library of 10,000 songs are all on his apple ID. I don't care about having much of the collection. I need CDs for my car anyway so figured I'd just record however many songs fit on a large stack of CDs, copy them to my new apple ID and call it a day.
The problem is that any time I switch between ID's everything is all funky, so I need to understand what is going on.
First of all, when I signed out of his apple ID, created my own apple ID and opened up iTunes, I had a bunch of random songs from his ID. Many of them are songs I'd never listened to before, some brand new ones he or my daughter bought on one of their devices, so they'd never been downloaded from the cloud onto my computer or anything.
Just now I went to his ID, created a song list, then had to download them from the cloud in order to burn them to a disk. When I went back to my ID, they were all there before I downloaded them from the disk. So when I downloaded them, did they literally download to my computer? No matter what apple ID I am using? That seems too easy. Or are they only on my computer, but I'll never get them on my phone with my apple ID unless I copy the disk to my apple ID? I'm totally confused.
Also, when I'm on my ID, I see his playlists now and I don't see the new ones I created for my new ID.
When I am on his ID, I turn on iTunes Match to make sure I'm seeing what I should be seeing, (otherwise I see a lot, but not all of his library). But I don't have iTunes Match set up for my ID, so I don't do I need to get that in order to have my own stuff show up as it should without any of his mixed?
I'm so confused! Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
