ipod Classic 120GB, music disappeared, when connected itunes crashes.

I am having an issue with my ipod classic 120gb.



I came to use my ipod today and it turned on as normal, but i soon realized that there was a problem. All my music, videos, podcasts etc have disappeared. By looking at the setting functions on the ipod it shows that there is still 92 GB of data stored on there. However, that data is not audio or video files. It is listed as 'other'?



I tried to connect my ipod to my laptop and when i do it causes itunes to crash before it even registers that the ipod is connected.



Anyone have any ideas? can it or my music be saved? or is the prognosis terminal?
