iPod Classic (7th Gen) 30-pin to AUX Volume Question

Background: I have a (7th Gen) 160gb ipod classic that I use to listen to music in my car. The connectors within the jack seem to have become corroded or are no longer making the appropriate contact with my AUX wire (or any headphone jack/AUX wire - I tried many different cables) anymore and as such, sound is coming out of only the left speaker.

Since I mainly use this in the car, I was beginning to lose hope of the classic working again. I did, however, find an alternative cable that works for me:

Amazon.com: Atomic Market 30 Pin Dock Connector to AUX 3.5mm Male Audio Cable for iPhone iPod iPad: MP3 Players & Accessories

It's a 30-pin to AUX cable and it works great. It allows me to maintain full control via the iPod (which I wanted because operating menus through USB-connected device is very tedious).

Issue:
My only issue is that sound seems to come through at only one "default volume" from the iPod. I can control the volume through the car stereo's volume knob no problem, but I CANNOT control the volume on the iPod (whereas I used to be able to with AUX cables that worked via the headphone jack). Unfortunately, some songs are louder than others and as such come through as staticy.

Question:
Is there any way to control the volume on the iPod via this cable? If not, is there a way to lower the "default volume" (if there's such a thing) of the iPod before connecting this cable so it won't come through as staticy?

Thanks in advance for the help!
