One playlist won't copy

I have recently upgraded to a 5c from an old 3GS phone, and am now on iOs 7.1 and iTunes 11.1.5.5



I have always copied new songs onto my iPhone using a smart Playlist ("Not yet rated") that notices songs that have not yet been rated. This copies the songs to the phone, where I listen to them, rate them, and then they automatically disappear from that playlist and go into the usual rating system.

The same songs also appear in other playlists (e.g. "Recently added").

Both playlists work fine on iTunes, i.e. the smart playlist logic is working ok



So, the problem:

The new songs are being copied into the iPhone ok, (so I can find them on the phone when I search under the artist name).

And the "not yet rated" playlist title is being copied into the phone. But when I tap on the list title, it says that the playlist is blank "No content". When I view the same playlist on iTunes, it confirms that it is not blank.



So my question is, why is iTunes copying the songs over, but somehow refusing to acknowledge that the unrated songs are to be included in the "not yet rated" list?
