Ipod only works whilst in speaker! Help please!

This is a long one so stick with me please.

About 3 years ago my iPod classic 5th gen 160GB was left out in the rain. It had the sad face picture and would not do anything. After trying everything I could find to fix it I chucked it in a draw and forgot about it.

Last week I was sorting through some stuff and found it, I put it in my Marley bag of riddim speakers for kicks and was amazed when it started up!I could play my music and use it as normal. The symbol shows it as fully charged but as soon as i took it out it crashed, lights out, glitchy screen, dead.

I tried plugging it in again and it would not work. Over the next couple of days it would work on and off. I tried putting it in the freezer and tried hitting it to get the hard drive going. This seems to have work as now it starts and works everytime I put it in the speaker.

My PC went up in smoke some time ago so I have no longer have most of the music that is on the ipod and I would love to get it off so that I can put it on my new iPod.

Unfortunately my old iPod will not turn on when connected to anything else. I've tried the laptop, 2 different charges, but it will not turn on except when plugged in to this speaker!

Anyone got any ideas how to help?

Much appreciated
