iPod Classic 30GB (5th Generation) formatting.

Hi everyone, new to the website and to the forum.

I have an iPod Classic 30GB (5th Generation) that I hadn't used for 4 or 5 years, since I got my iPod Touch.

Thing is, I turned it on a few months ago and could see all the songs I had and stuff, everything was working fine. When it runned out of battery, I connected it to the computer and itunes told me i needed to upgrade it to the latest iOS for the device, which I believe was 6.1.something.

Thing is, after I upgraded the latest version it stopped working and showed a message that I needed to take it to assistance and it wouldn't start the menu. After trying several things I just left it.

Last week, i turned it on agian and it was working (unplugged) but it was empty, so I decided to connect it to my Windows 7 laptop to try to put some songs on it using iTunes, it recognized the device but it said I had to restore it. So I did it, or at least, I tried to. It wouldn't work so after several tries, I formatted it using windows explorer...

I have no clue what the heck did I do but now nor iTunes recognizes it or Windows allows me to access it.

When unplugged to the laptop, the ipod works just fine, but it's empty.

I think in all the formatting thing I might have erased some necessary files for it to sync or even be recognized by my computer.

What should I do to be able to put some songs on it?

Is there any diagnose program from apple or something like that which might help?

Help, please :)
