how to delete files ...

ok, this is what happened ... i put all the music i wanted for the ipod in a folder, highlighted everything and right clicked send to ipod. nothing showed up that i could see. installed the songs properly thru the library and all good. however, the first batch of files i sent used up space in 'other' section on the hard drive .... my question is, how do i get that off? i have tried thru the computer in ipod mode, but all that shows is the library of uploaded songs ... do i have to do a system restore with the ipod or what can i do? i have used up about 5 gigs of free space by leaving this on the hard drive ... thanks in advance
