ipod won't sync

I have a new win 10 and installed itunes - I did not backup or do anything with the iTunes that was on my old computer. I just installed itunes under my ID. When I hook up my 160 ipod to the new itunes it does not sync with the new songs - what should I do. I tried a different cable and port and it is the same problem
