I have the following setup:
- 5th gen Ipod Touch 32Gb with IOS 9.3.2, set to manually manage media
- iTunes 12.4.0.119
- Windows 10
I have had this Ipod for several years and have been successfully using iTunes to manage music and audiobooks, specifically adding media from my PC and then dragging and dropping to the Ipod within iTunes. I had been using older versions of iTunes and IOS. My problems started when I upgraded to Windows 10 and started to find problems with dragging and dropping to the Ipod.
At that point I took the path to the latest iTunes and IOS and have been trying to restore all of my music. I created a brand new catalog and imported only the music that I had previously had on my Ipod. Then I dragged and dropped the whole library to the Ipod and left it to run all day.
When it appeared to have finished the ipod showed about 50% of the songs greyed out. To identify and delete the greyed out songs would have been too time consuming so I deleted everything on the Ipod and started dragging songs over by artist. If I dragged an artist with, say 40 songs, maybe 20 of they would be greyed out, but if I dragged all the songs individually everything would be OK. Then I tried dragging songs in groups starting at 2 then 3 etc - this semed to work OK until about 20 songs.
I did try syncing the whole lot but that gave me the same result as the drag and drop.
In the meantime I am successfully dragging and dropping audiobooks to the Ipod but these generally have less than 20 tracks.
I have scoured the internet for solutions and have tried various things, but nothing seems to nothing seems to fit my particular situation.
Thanks for any suggestions by the experts and members at iLounge.
