Syncing a new iPad after losing the old one!

Hi. I lost my iPad2 while travelling through Europe recently. It had been backed up to my iMac at home. I purchased a NEW iPad Air in Paris and have been using it for about 2 months, I now want to sync it to my home iMac, however I don't want to use the backup from my older iPad. I'm scared if I just go ahead and plug my new iPad into my iMac it will replace everything on my NEW iPad with whatever I backed up from my old iPad! I don't want that! I have started afresh and don't actually need anything from my old iPad. How do I rectify this?
