a review of the Wacom Bamboo stylus, on an iPad Mini

I promissed a review, on the Wacom Bamboo Stylus.

This i it. In fact, I am entering keystrokes with it, for the review. As in all things, there are Pro's & Con's, I usually can weigh out such things, but not in this case!

I will simply leave it up to you, to decide, upon my statements.

First, there are three styles to choose from:

1... simple narrow diameter longer unit, the least expensive, at US $ 32 rounded off/up. I dislike a few pennies off the price, to indicate less expense, heh. That is me. I did not choose this, it was to narrow a diameter, for my 63 year old hands to handle, even with its rubber grip, it was thinner than a normal "wood" pencil.

2... a version that collapses into itself but has a nice rubber grip area. This unit is approximently the diameter of what are called "fat pens" or ergonomic pens, etc. easier for holding in arthritic hands.

Price, US $ 35.

3... A combination, writing pen, and stylus, of approximently the diameter of #2. Full length pen size.

Price, US $ 40

I did not need a Pen, so I puchased number 2. I soon realized my first error, and was surprised by Wacom's lack of a firction style lock to prevent "shrinking". At the most inopertune moments, the stylus would COLLAPSE, causing me frustration, from lack of input ability. (I fixed that today, when the unit actually Fell Apart in use, the inner barrel, and parts all falling to my desk) !!!!! I now have a full length stylus, having found an empty pen, discarding the lower end, and friction fit into the barrel/stylus rubber grip area.

The next Major negative, for me, is that the tip is fairly spungy (sp) feeling, and to me, it feels like I must "stab" at the screen protector, to be effective in imput. I will remind readers, that my iPad Mini, has a Zagg Screen Protector, and they are possibly the hardest of screen protectors to input through, I say that from reading complaints about them.

I love my Zagg Screen Protector, it is Meant to Protect my screen, from ME!!!

Now, the final complaint, in my opinion, the stylus, MUST BE used in a near vertical position, from the screen. There will be Very Little Chance, of input, if you are even less than approximently 70/75 degrees angle, from the screen.

I will continue, though to use the Wacom, until I have a chance to try another stylus option. The size of the conductor point, is very easy to see around, if you have the "bubble magnifying glass" in use, not so my Size Fifteen Fat Fingers !!!

Over all I like it, as modified, Through above negative comments! The pen I used, is made of all metal, and provides a nice ballanced feel to the stylus, I can accept, For Writing Input, the near verticle aspect, mind you, I desire to do limited graphics on this iPad Mini, so I await purchase number two, to be reviewed later.

It might offer some help, to share that I had Over 20 input errors, while inputing this, all from stylus, I am not counting there, My Own Human errors of mis-keyed letters, etc. that is on my half, not on behalf of the stylus!!!

I would say buy this, if the cost is not extreme to you, if you use or have a harder screen input need. The clerk spoke of one brand of tablet which has a very hard screen to input upon, and that he sells many Wacom Bamboo's to owners of that (un-named) tablet.

I do hope that helps.

Standard denial issue: I own no stock in said companies I only use their products.

Philip
