Ipod classic 160gb Flashes what could this be

I go to use my ipod this morning,after using it last night and it would not respond or react to a reset when i plug in to cpu via usb cable the screen flashes when i try to reset via usb cable plugged in the apple logo appears and then that flashes is it a bad ipod or battery issues can this issue be resolved from home i cant attempt and type of hard reset.
