Questions on meaning of an iTunes display re an iPad

When I call up iTunes on my Xp pc (without my iPad connected) and when I click on my iPad symbol see a bar at the bottom of the screen, with several sections as shown below. And when I right-click a particular section I get the information shown..



To the right of the bar is a button labeled “Sync”.



Would someone please clarify what all this information means; see my questions(a through e) below.

1 First section of bar: Audio (blue) 1.40 GB, 64 songs

2. Second section: Photos (gold) 1.62 GB, 419 photos

3. Third section: Apps (green) 408 MB 18 apps

4. Fourth section: Other (yellow) 765 MB

5. Fifth section: 9.58 GB free



QUESTIONS: A. Where are the Songs and Photos and Apps and Others stored, on my C:drive? Or are those numbers referring to the storage in the iPad (that I had earlier connected to the pc?)



B. What does the 9.58 GB refer to?
