iPod classic corrupts after every sync

I've been having an issue with my iPod classic syncing to iTunes since an update I believe a month or two ago. When I sync it the process completes but when I eject my iPod it's corrupted and doesn't recognize any of the data. A restore does nothing and I have to change the drive letter and restart for it to allow me to restore it. Once restored, it lets me sync fine and eject without problems. However, the next time I sync it, it corrupts again. I've run the diagnostics on my iPod and uninstalled/reinstalled all Apple software. Any additional ideas on where I should go from here?
