Will the iPhone 6+ be dual band?

I'm planning on buying a Verizon iPhone 6+ but will be traveling to Europe in November. I just called Apple and was told that I will need to buy an unlocked phone. I was under the impression that the phone will support both GSM and CDMA so I wouldn't need to buy an unlocked phone. Could anyone clarify this?
