First of all I have an Ipod vers. 11.1.2.31. I am running Windows 7 Home.
I bought my Ipod at least 4 years ago, possibly more. It is a 160 Gig, Classic.
I believe it is a 6th generation. Software vers. is 2.0.4
I had no issues that I can recall the first year or 1 1/2 years. I built up an extensive library since I was a DJ and had a ton of music.
I set it up in a way that I believe was a bit unconventional but was told by Apple support at the time that it would work fine that way.
Basically under Devices > Music, I set up my Genres in Folders and within each folder I set up sub folders (playlists) where needed. Example: Folder - Blues with 17 playlists, each playlist an artist.
I have 19 other folders (genres) total. Currently there are approx. 115 gigs. of music in the Ipod.
About a 1 1/2 years after setting it up as described above I opened iTunes and all my playlists and folders were gone. Replaced by a long list of music files. It took me hours to sort through the music. Re-establish and re-name new folders and put the appropriate music back into each newly created folder. Thereafter this would occur periodically and was more frustrating each time it happened.
I spoke with Apple support numerous times and they actually had a file on me that I'd refer them to so that they could familiarize themselves as to the nature of the issue. I must have spoken to at least 15 and 20 different advisers during a year long period of time, and tried all kinds of suggestions, including deleting and re-downloading iTunes numerous times......with some success for a time but eventually there would come a time when I'd open Itunes and the music would be one long list of songs again.
I gave up on 'support' and just started re-starting the computer each time I'd want to open Itunes. It worked then and has worked every time since. I have not had a re-occurance or the problem since I started re-starting the computer before opening Itunes. As I write this I'm knocking on wood because re-starting is the only thing that stands between a functional and dysfunctional Itunes for me and I'm hoping it will continue to work.
The reason for this thread is, I'm wondering if anyone has ever encountered this issue and if so how did they solve it. Granted I have not spoken with Apple Support recently so there may have been a glitch they discovered in the interim.............and a fix. Or maybe one of the updates I've loaded over the years fixed it. Each one of them claimed that mine was a unique occurrence.
Any info./feedback on this would be appreciated.
Regards,
Len
