iPod Touch 5th Gen. Charging issue

Ok, first of all, this is not a problem with the charger I am using or the power source, have tried 3 different cables and many plug sockets and USB ports.

When I plug the charger in, it does not charge, I've cleaned the port out.

I KNOW that the iPod is receiving power, as when it is turned off, and I plug it in to the charger, it powers up, but once it has booted up, it isn't charging??

I have just turned the iPod off and the charger is still connected, and it is displaying a picture of a plug with an arrow pointing to a lightning bolt, the battery image is flashing from red to nothing (no charge at all)

This screen appears for 3-4 seconds, then goes off, then comes back 1-2 seconds after.

I am going to leave it like this for a good hour to see what happens.

Maybe it is a problem on the logic board, I read somewhere that it does this when the board is damaged, so it doesn't charge, but still recieves power?

I don't know, I'm adamant to fix this, and I'm lost without my iPod... I don't use a phone so my iPod is my only way of contact, and I got stranded at the airport for 4 hours becuase I couldn't contact anyone.
