iphone trying to send imessage to NON-iphone

Whenever my daughter sends my husband a txt, it tries to send it as an imessage and fails and gives her the option to send as a txt message. He USED to have an iphone, so I know that they used to send imessages, but he has switched to a non-iphone. Her iphone is still trying though. She's deleted him as a contact, re-entered him and made sure that his phone number is just listed as a cell (NOT an iphone). It still tries to send it as an imessage every single time. How do we get her phone to just send plain old txts so she doesn't have to try each msg 2x?



Mine had the same problem (trying to send to him as an imessage) but once I switch the info in his contact to be a regular cell, not an iphone, it stopped and only attempts txt msgs now. Hers doesn't want to stop the imessages. She has the 4s.
