Alac vs Flac CRC MD5 Checksum

Ok so I've just found out ALAC is not great for archiving or storing lossless audio because it doesn't keep or contain CRC info, to self check for errors when transferring files to a second hard drive or backing up? Is this true...can someone explain what crc md5 and checksums are and the differences between flac and alac in this respect.

Originally i was storing my lossless files in ALAC but this new info has put a spanner in the works, I'm not confident in continuing down this road if the files won't be perfect when copied over or backed up to a second hard drive.

This also makes the issue of batch converting a huge pain, if i decide to keep flac it means having to use dbpoweramp to convert once (which i know checks crc when converting but then i guess the info isnt stored in the alac file after this initial convert, so the second alac copy may have errors?). Once the flac has been converted to alac i can put the file into itunes and then create aac to make a lossy file for iDevices and then delete the alac file (long, time consuming hassle).

I know i could use nero aac in dbpoweramp but i dont feel its the same, as good an encoder, or consistent with bitrates and quality settings. Ive also read its second to itunes encoder. Foobar qtaacenc is another option but again more hassle, typing out strings of code and idk how to set min med or max quality in this.

I've read recently itunes plus is 256 aac using qtaacenc at constrained vbr at max quality? I'm leaning towards using this.

If flac is the only way to keep crc md5 details in check, can i rename the file names, add lyrics and artwork to these files without messing the crc or other error correcting info up?

Hopefully someone here can understand what i'm trying to get at, its kind of hard to explain or properly word this question when i dont fully understand what the whole crc md5 stuff is about, but i like the idea that its there for when i create backups.

Any help info on this would be appreciated, the easiest and best option for me would be to continue what i was doing, creating alac files that i can rename add lyrics and artwork too etc but i would much prefer accurate secure files after my eac secure ripping etc

Thanks
