iPod classic controls

Would someone please tell me how I STOP my classic iPod? That is: I am listening to a podcast and wish to pause it for, say, many days --how do I do that? Pressing and holding the 3:00 position on the dial does not seem to do it for me.



Do I have to remember WHERE I was in the podcast or will the iPod return to that spot when I resume? How do I resume?
