How to access documents stored in cloud

I have many word and spreadsheet docs that were created with my phone and pushed to icloud. I can see them listed when i open "manage storage" using iclod control panel. But they don't show up when i am logged on to icloud. After opening pages or numbers they are not there and the "download" option is greyed out. Main computer is windows vista and laptop is xp. Are they too old? Is there a work around? Thanks.
