Hey!
Cracked my screen after 2 years of use on my iPod touch 4th gen..
Bought a brand new screen online from a reputable source for around 23 dollars or so..
New screen came, looks great, digitzer was protected, screen was protected, everything..
I had already chiseled out the screen and glue and cleaned up the chassis of my iPod nicely before the screen came from quick installation.
Screen came today, started unscrewing the base, popped off the metal plate carefully without damaging ribbon cables.. I do believe I severed the blue cable on the speaker (unless it's always cut in half, since I can't find the other end) but I hear that's common, so I don't really feel dumb! :D
Unscrewed board, popped off rear-camera bracket, wiggled out front camera, carefully lifted the board, removed old screen, put in new one, worked in reverse..
Did everything as the instructions told me, but I get a whitescreen!
Now, I've done my research on this very thoroughly, and almost everyone says that it happens when you attach the new LCD when the battery is on, which is logical.. New hardware would obviously cause a confusion, but the common fix of HOME+POWER, or the one with the volume up did NOT fix it..
I backtracked many times, taking it apart and trying again, checking everything carefully.. Everything seems fine..
Now, my iPod happened to be jailbroken, so I went ahead and put it into DFU mode and restored it on iTunes, which I totally regret because I sucked up losing my data.. I figured after the restore the chances of it being fixed were high, but when nothing changed, it made the effects of losing all my data ever worse!
I also heard that the very very little connectors near the LCD port that you covered by a little bit of foam can disconnect and that has caused white screens, but mine seem sturdy..
I feel like I've gone through all of the troubleshooting tips that I've found on the internet, but I'm sure someone's got a tip out there?
I also try to never resort to calling the LCD screen faulty, because it's rather rare nowadays to get a faulty piece of equipment.. and I'd rather not have to go through the hassle of returning it if the replacement is going to do the exact same thing..
What are some other things I can try to do to fix it? Components I should check? Things I should try?
Thanks,
-Yebba
