I-Pod Classic Seems To Play The Same Songs Alot...WHY?

I have had a Classic (120GB) for a long time........use it in all of my vehicles (new and classics)....I have some sort of an Ipod interface in all of them so I connect to the Ipod via the multipin connector on the bottom......use only "wav" files (like the way they sound)...have about 2400 tracks on it....use the "shuffle" play mode all the time.....the only problem I seem to have with it is it seems to play a lot of the same tracks....the only way I can seem to get it to stop doing that for awhile is to do a "restore" on it every once in awhile, but then after awhile it's starts doing the same thing ...I have tracks I have never heard.....is there a way to program the Ipod to stop doing that?
